ICC confirms schedule in Mumbai
The ICC released the full tournament schedule on Tuesday in Mumbai. India and Pakistan are placed in Group A of the 20 team competition, which India and Sri Lanka will co host from February 7. The cricket calendar now has its biggest clash locked in.
First face off after Asia Cup 2025
This will be the first meeting between the teams since the heated 2025 Asia Cup in the UAE. That match ended without the usual post game handshake after tension over the border conflict in May. Under the neutral venue agreement Pakistan will play all matches in Sri Lanka.
Same format as 2024
The World Cup will follow the format used in 2024. There are four groups of five teams each and the top sides move into the Super Eights. The final is scheduled for March 8 either in Ahmedabad or Colombo based on Pakistan’s progress.
India riding strong momentum
India enter the event as defending champions after beating South Africa in the 2024 final. The women’s side is also in top form after winning their first World Cup this month, a final that JioHotstar reported drew 185 million viewers.
