Kolkata Knight Riders have appointed former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson as their new assistant coach, adding another layer of international experience to their IPL 2026 support staff.
Watson Joins Abhishek Nayar’s Team
The 44-year-old joins newly appointed head coach Abhishek Nayar after the exits of Chandrakant Pandit and Bharat Arun, who have joined Lucknow Super Giants as bowling coach. KKR, who last lifted the IPL trophy in 2024, are rebuilding their coaching team for long-term success.
A Career Packed With Experience
Watson brings immense experience from his international career. He played 59 Tests, 190 ODIs, and 58 T20Is for Australia, scoring over 10,000 runs and taking more than 280 wickets across formats.
IPL Champion With Two Titles
In the IPL, Watson represented Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Chennai Super Kings. He won titles in 2008 and 2018 before retiring in 2020, leaving behind a powerful legacy in franchise cricket.
KKR Banking On Global Expertise
KKR CEO Venky Mysore said Watson’s world-class T20 knowledge will be a major boost for the franchise. Watson called KKR “iconic” and said he looks forward to working with players to bring another title to Kolkata.
