MI’s Terrible Downfall: From Ruthless to Hopeless

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians have been a force to reckon with in the Indian Premier League (IPL) ever since the very first season in 2008.

Although the team has seen its fair share of ups and downs, things have never been as bad as now.

MI finished off the last season being at the very bottom of the points table. Continuing the same legacy, they botched up their opening match against CSK while demonstrating a disastrous batting collapse.

Many fans are blaming MI’s poor performance on Rohit Sharma being sacked as the captain last season, trying to portray a golden era of MI during Rohit’s captaincy.

These fans often point at Rohit’s ‘ruthless’ mentality during his captaincy, showcasing it as the reason behind MI dominating every season.

But the harsh reality is that MI’s downfall had started in 2020 itself, much before Rohit left the captaincy, with the team struggling to even make the playoffs since 2021.

These fans need to understand that no one factor is completely responsible for a team’s win or loss.

The blame for MI’s loss can’t be fully attributed to Hardik’s captaincy, just as their domination pre-2020 can’t be fully attributed to Rohit Sharma alone.

With the team now hoping to clinch their 6th title, it will be interesting to see whether MI’s recent drought finally ends in this season of the IPL.
