Piyush Chawla has officially retired from all forms of cricket. After more than 20 years in the game, the leg-spinner has hung his boots.

Yes, Chawla was part of India’s 2011 ODI World Cup winning team, a moment every Indian cricketer dreams of.

While Rohit Sharma has had an incredible career with multiple IPL titles and global records, the 50-over World Cup is still missing from his shelf.

Chawla’s own India career was short. He played 3 Tests, 25 ODIs and 7 T20Is. His best ODI figures were 4/23 and he often impressed with his variations—especially his googlies and quicker deliveries.

But what made Chawla’s career special was not just stats. It was being part of the biggest moments in Indian cricket. He was in the squad that won both the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. Not many can say that.

Where Chawla truly made his name, though, was in domestic cricket and the IPL.

He took over 400 first-class wickets and more than 300 wickets in T20s. He was a key player for Kolkata Knight Riders, helping them win the IPL in 2012 and 2014.

That’s what fans are celebrating now. He may not have had a superstar career like Rohit or Kohli but he lived the dream every cricketer has. He lifted the World Cup. He won titles. He was consistent.And he’s gone.
