No Retirement: Rohit to Play for 5 More Years?

Yograj Singh has once again stirred controversy with his latest comments on Indian ODI skipper Rohit Sharma. Known for making bold and polarising statements, Yograj has now demanded that the BCCI allow Rohit to continue playing till the age of 45.

Speaking about Rohit’s class and ability, Yograj said, “BCCI should ask Rohit Sharma to play for another five years. He has the calibre to play till the age of 45.” The remark quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from fans and cricket analysts.

While some agreed that Rohit still has the form and experience to serve the team, many criticised the idea, calling it unrealistic. Critics argue that every player, no matter how talented, has physical limits, and relying on veterans for too long can block opportunities for younger players waiting to prove themselves.

The timing of Yograj’s comment has also raised eyebrows, with reports suggesting that Gautam Gambhir (GG) is already considering changes in leadership and team composition. Many believe Rohit may struggle to hold his spot even this year, let alone for another five years.

The debate highlights a long-standing dilemma in Indian cricket—balancing the legacy of senior players with the need to groom the next generation. Whether BCCI heeds Yograj’s advice or moves forward with fresh faces, Rohit Sharma’s future remains a talking point for fans and experts alike.
