Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is facing criticism over alleged hypocrisy regarding his stance on Pakistan in cricket. The controversy began after his comments on Indian franchise decisions and quickly gained attention across social media platforms.
Gavaskar had earlier criticised SRH ownership for signing Abrar Ahmed. Soon after, users pointed out his appearance on a Pakistani show in Dubai during the Asia Cup. This led to questions about consistency between his views and actions.
In response, Gavaskar issued a clarification about his role. He stated that he was part of commentary panels organised by ICC and ACC. He added that revenue from these events is distributed among participating countries, not directly by individuals.
Gavaskar emphasised that he did not make any personal payments to Pakistani players or commentators. He explained that his involvement was limited to professional commitments. His clarification aimed to address concerns raised by critics.
He also stated that Indian franchise owners should avoid paying Pakistani individuals. According to him, such exchanges have not taken place in recent years. His remarks added another layer to the ongoing debate.
While many accepted his explanation, some remained unconvinced. Critics argued that he could have taken a symbolic stand by avoiding shared platforms. The issue continues to spark discussion among cricket followers and the public.
