GG Out, India Wins: Coincidence or Clear Sign?

India’s 3-0 series win over Zimbabwe has started a fresh debate among fans. With VVS Laxman taking charge in Gautam Gambhir’s absence, many believe Team India looked better under VVS Laxman.

The timing of the debate is important. Before the Zimbabwe tour, India lost the T20I series against Ireland and England and also suffered an ODI series defeat.

During those series, Gautam Gambhir was criticised for making too many changes to the playing XI and trying different combinations in almost every match.

Things looked different in Zimbabwe. The team had a settled playing XI, every player knew his role and the youngsters played with confidence.

Shreyas Iyer also looked much more comfortable as captain, while players like Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yash Thakur and Ashok Sharma all made important contributions.

After the series, Laxman praised Shreyas Iyer for leading the team well and backing every player. The BCCI also shared a dressing room video, and many fans on social media started asking whether Laxman should continue as India’s head coach instead of Gambhir.

Zimbabwe are not as strong as England, so one series cannot decide who is the better coach.

But after India’s poor results under Gambhir and the 3-0 sweep under Laxman, one question is now everywhere does Team India need fewer experiments and more stability?
