Vaibhav Sooryavanshi‘s wait for his India debut continues. The 15 year old was once again left out of India’s playing XI for the first T20I against England.
Despite a sensational IPL 2026 season, where he scored 776 runs in 16 innings and won the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar believes every match Sooryavanshi misses only increases the pressure and expectations surrounding him.
While he admitted the teenager will face pressure whenever he debuts, Gavaskar added that players of his age often don’t overthink such situations. He also said being in the Indian dressing room and learning from senior players is a valuable experience.
The decision has reignited the selection debate. Many fans believe current form should matter more than reputation, questioning how long inconsistent performers like Sanju Samson and underperforming big names will continue to get opportunities while Sooryavanshi waits despite earning his place.
Whenever he finally gets his chance, Sooryavanshi will become the youngest player to represent India’s senior men’s team and the youngest cricketer to play a men’s T20 International.
