No Trophy, Only Tears: IPL’s Unluckiest Legend

Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal is one of the best bowlers in IPL history, but when it comes to finals, luck hasn’t been on his side.

After Punjab Kings lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore by six runs in IPL 2025, Chahal became the first player to lose three IPL finals with three different teams. That’s a record nobody wants.

Chahal’s first final loss was in 2016, playing for RCB. They lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by just eight runs. Then in 2022, playing for Rajasthan Royals, he lost again in the final to Gujarat Titans.

Both finals were played in Ahmedabad, which hasn’t been kind to him. Now in 2025, Punjab Kings lost to RCB in the playoffs, making it the third final loss for Chahal with a different team.

Chahal started his IPL career in 2013 with Mumbai Indians. His first game wasn’t great, but over time he became IPL’s highest wicket-taker with 221 wickets.

In IPL 2025, he hit good form halfway through, took a hat-trick against Chennai Super Kings. He finished the season with 16 wickets in 14 matches and a best of 4/28.

Losing three finals with three teams shows how tough it is to win the IPL trophy. Even though Chahal is one of the best bowlers, he has faced heartbreak at the biggest moments.

Still, his performances prove he’s a key player wherever he goes.

Chahal’s finals record is unlucky, but his achievements are huge. He started as a young player and grew to become IPL’s top wicket-taker. The IPL trophy may have slipped away, but he won’t stop trying to win it.
