The Nivin Pauly-Mamitha Baiju starrer has reportedly crossed Rs. 130 crores in Kerala. It has also passed Vaazha 2’s reported Kerala gross of around Rs. 126 crores.

Worldwide, BKU has already crossed the Rs. 300 crore mark and has beaten Lokah, emerging as the new industry hit.

What makes this run more interesting is the film itself. Bethlehem Kudumba Unit is not a typical big-star action film. The Nivin Pauly-Mamitha Baiju pairing and their age-gap love story have connected strongly with audiences.

The film has clearly found the right emotional connect. Strong word of mouth has then pushed the collections higher.

This is the bigger change in Malayalam cinema.

Rs. 100 crore is no longer the big milestone it once was. Films are now chasing Rs. 200 crores and Rs. 300 crores, and even films without massive budgets or traditional superstar formulas are finding huge theatrical success.

The race is moving very fast.

Bethlehem Kudumba Unit crossed Lokah Chapter 1’s Rs. 300 crore worldwide mark, and Malayalam cinema has another new industry benchmark almost immediately. In other industries, it might take a few years or even a decade to cross the records of an industry hit.

That is the real surprise.

The question is no longer whether Malayalam cinema can reach Rs. 300 crores. It is how long the next record will survive.
