Malayalam film Bethlehem Kudumba Unit starring Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju in the lead roles and directed by Girish A D, was released in theatres on August 21st as an Onam special and has received super positive responses from the audience and critics alike.
Since the director Girish A D and actress Mamitha Baiju collaborated for this film after the huge success of Premalu and actor Nivin Pauly returned with this film after the success of Sarvam Maya, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit had massive expectations among the audience before its release.
Consequently, with the super positive responses from the audience, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit went on a rampage at the box office and emerged as the highest-grossing Malayalam film of the year.
Following the massive success of the original version, the makers of Bethlehem Kudumba Unit officially announced that the Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions of the film would hit the screens on September 4th.
While the trade circles expected that Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’s Tamil and Telugu versions would also emerge as successful ventures, leading the film to easily become an industry hit, the Telugu and Tamil versions are surprisingly performing below par in theatres. Even though both versions have received positive responses, the Day 1 collections of the dubbed versions are extremely low.
In response to this unexpected result, many trade experts commented that it seems the audience is interested in watching the film only in its original version. They noted that the makers of Bethlehem Kudumba Unit should have released the dubbed versions on the same date as the original release, and if they had done so, the dubbed versions would have also performed well.
Meanwhile, the original version is still going strong with no signs of slowing down, as according to reports, the 15th-day collections of Bethlehem Kudumba Unit in Kerala were higher than the 3rd-day collections of Dulquer Salmaan’s recently released I’m Game.
Ultimately, it remains to be seen how Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’s Telugu and Tamil versions will perform at the box office and whether the collections will pick up in the following days.
