The case filed by Malayalam actor Dileep against several media houses came up for hearing in the Kerala High Court. During the proceedings, the Chief Justice directed the Police Department to submit its report within 60 days. The court issued a strict deadline.
In 2017, Dileep was arrested in connection with the Malayalam actress rape case. Police had alleged that he was the mastermind behind the crime. In 2025, the Ernakulam Sessions Court found him not guilty, while the main accused were sentenced to 20 years in prison.
While the trial was ongoing in 2022, the court restrained media houses and broadcasters from publishing details related to the case. Despite this order, several reports and discussions were aired. Dileep then approached the Kerala High Court, alleging violation of court directions.
Following his plea, police registered five FIRs against different media organisations. So far, only one case has been completed and a judgment delivered. The remaining four cases have been pending since 2022, the Chief Justice observed during the latest hearing.
Taking note of the delay, the court directed police officials to file their reports within 60 days. The order has renewed attention on Dileep’s prolonged legal battle. Observers now await further action against the media houses named in the complaints.
With the fresh deadline in place, expectations are rising that the matter may move towards closure. However, the future course of the case will depend on the reports submitted. It remains to be seen how the High Court proceeds in the coming weeks.
