Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Delay Throws Kollywood into Chaos

Jana Nayagan delay impact

Kollywood is facing release schedule confusion in 2026, largely due to the delay of Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. The film was initially planned for a January 9 release but got postponed due to censor certification issues.

So far this year, apart from Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi, no major big-budget films have hit theatres. This has created a gap in the release calendar.

However, medium-budget films like Jiiva’s Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil, With Love, Thaai Kizhavi and Youth have helped sustain theatres and distributors during this period.

Even these films are now facing disruptions due to frequent date changes. On April 3, Legend Saravanan’s Leader and Bharath’s Kalidas 2 are set for release with minimal promotion due to last-minute scheduling.

The main reason behind this confusion is the uncertainty around Jana Nayagan. Since it was expected to release in late February or early March, many films shifted their dates to April to avoid a clash.

Further complications arose with Pradeep Ranganathan’s Love Insurance Kompany (LIK). The film was first planned for April 3 but later postponed to April 10.

This led to another shift, as Bharath’s Kalidas 2 moved its release to April 3. Such constant changes have created a chain reaction in Kollywood’s release calendar.

Trade experts believe that better planning from big-budget films could have avoided this situation. They suggest that fixed release dates should be announced well in advance.

According to them, announcing dates at least two months early would help medium-budget films plan better promotions and avoid clashes.

After a strong phase for mid-range films, big releases are expected to pick up by the end of April. Dhanush’s Kara is set to lead this phase.

Following that, several big films including Suriya’s Karuppu are lined up for release this year. The industry now hopes for a more stable release schedule going forward.
