Kollywood Shake? Directors Acting, Actors Directing

Kollywood is witnessing an unusual shift. Once, you saw music directors like GV Prakash Kumar and Vijay Antony turn actors. Now, a fresh trend is taking over directors becoming actors and actors stepping into direction.

After Lokesh Kanagaraj released the promo for his acting debut DC, social media exploded with reactions. The buzz added fuel to an already interesting lineup of talent crossovers in Tamil cinema.

Before DC, Abishan Jeevinth, who made his directorial debut with Tourist Family, announced his next project as an actor alongside Anaswara Rajan. The film’s shooting is moving at a fast pace, keeping fans curious.

Adding to the list, reports say director Elan, known for Pyaar Prema Kaadhal and Star, is planning to act in his next film. Meanwhile, Pradeep Ranganathan, now a recognised actor, also started his journey as a director.

On the flip side, actor Jayam Ravi has begun his directorial debut An Ordinary Man, starring himself and Yogi Babu. Actor Vishal also turned director for Magudam after facing production issues with Ravi Arasu.

Ken Karunas, known for his roles in Asuran and Vaathi, recently announced his directorial debut. Even Vijay Antony, who has already acted and composed, is reportedly planning to direct a film soon.

Many people online feel this trend might not last long. They say, apart from Pradeep Ranganathan, no director-turned-actor or actor-turned-director looks promising yet. Still, the debate has gone viral, keeping Kollywood fans divided.
