Following Leo, Lokesh Kanagaraj returned with Rajinikanth’s Coolie, which released in theatres on August 14 and received mixed responses from audiences.
Before the release of Coolie, Lokesh Kanagaraj had confirmed in many interviews that his immediate next project would be Kaithi 2 with Karthi. But now, strong speculation suggests that before Kaithi 2, he may direct a big-budget pan-Indian film starring Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. An official announcement is expected soon.
Reports further state that the story will be based on two aged gangsters and that Kamal Haasan’s RKFI will produce the film. While many fans celebrated the buzz as a dream project for Kollywood, others expressed disappointment, calling it a mistake to delay Kaithi 2.
Fans argue that although a Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan film is a dream for Kollywood, Kaithi 2 has long been awaited. The film is central to the LCU concept and already has a cult following. Many believe Lokesh Kanagaraj should complete Kaithi 2 first to prove his potential.
So far, there has been no official confirmation about the project. It now remains to be seen whether Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan will reunite under Lokesh Kanagaraj’s direction and how this much-talked-about film, if it happens, will take shape.
