The film marked the reunion of Mammootty and Mohanlal after 18 years. It also featured strong actors like Fahadh Faasil and Kunchacko Boban in key roles. This combination created strong buzz before release.
Pre bookings were very strong across Kerala. The film recorded one of the biggest openings for a Malayalam film. It stood next only to L2 Empuraan in terms of initial response.
However, the final output has disappointed many viewers. Audiences felt the story was predictable. Several scenes were seen as slow and lacking impact.
Many also pointed out that supporting actors were not used well. Apart from Mammootty and Mohanlal, others had limited scope. This reduced the overall effectiveness of the film.
At the same time, some critics supported the director’s approach. They appreciated Mahesh Narayanan for attempting a content driven spy action film. Instead of a mass entertainer, he focused on a realistic tone.
Critics said the idea was strong but execution was weak. The screenplay did not fully support the concept. This led to an average result.
Due to mixed reviews, bookings are now dropping. Outside Kerala, the film is struggling to hold screens. The response in other regions is weak.
Reports suggest the film was made on a budget of around 150 crores. If the current trend continues, it may end as a loss venture. The box office performance is under pressure.
It remains to be seen how Patriot performs in the coming days. The film now depends on word of mouth. Reaching break even could be a challenge.
