Lokesh’s Crazy Style Wins Over Aamir, Loses Mahesh

Debate on Lokesh Kanagaraj Unscripted Style

Coolie, the much-awaited action entertainer starring Rajinikanth, is all set to release on August 14.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film features a massive star cast including Nagarjuna, Upendra, Aamir Khan, Satyaraj, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan. The buzz is strong, and excitement is growing across industries.

In a recent interview with Anupama Chopra, Lokesh revealed that he doesn’t follow a traditional script process. Instead, he writes in fragments, constantly shuffling and rewriting scenes — even during filming.

This method has sparked debate in the film industry. Some feel it boosts creativity. Others think it’s risky, especially for big-budget films.

This style might be the reason Mahesh Babu didn’t collaborate with Lokesh. Mahesh is known for preferring a fully bound script before signing a film. Lokesh’s style doesn’t fit that model.

However, fans now question this decision — especially since Mahesh agreed to do Guntur Kaaram, which had no script at all. Many feel he would have been better off working with Lokesh instead.

The bigger surprise is Aamir Khan’s cameo in Coolie. Aamir is famously selective and script-driven. Yet, he said yes — reportedly out of admiration for Rajinikanth and trust in Lokesh’s vision.

Even more interesting, Aamir has signed a second film with Lokesh — a large-scale global superhero drama. This raises questions: Did Lokesh present a full script this time? Or is Aamir just confident in his storytelling?

Despite not following industry norms, Lokesh is attracting top talent. Whether this approach works in the long run is still uncertain.

But for now, Coolie is shaping up to be a defining moment for Tamil cinema — and possibly its first 1000 crore blockbuster. Fingers crossed.
