Even though 2024 was not a great year for Rajinikanth, as Lal Salaam and Vettaiyan ended up as disasters in theatres, Rajinikanth still tops the list of post-COVID highest-grossing senior South Indian actors.
According to box office analysts, Rajinikanth leads the list by earning 1053 crores in box office collections with just four movies post-COVID.

He firmly secures the top position among the highest-grossing senior South Indian actors.
Following Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan takes the second position. Despite his last release, Indian 2, being a disaster, Kamal Haasan’s Vikram, released in 2022, was a blockbuster success. With two movies post-COVID, Kamal Haasan has earned 572 crores in box office collections.

The third position is held by Tollywood superstar Chiranjeevi, with 467.5 crores from four movies. Following Chiranjeevi, Mammootty occupies the fourth position with 464 crores from 12 movies.
Although Mammootty secured the fourth position on this list, he won the hearts of South Indian audiences post-COVID with a variety of critically acclaimed movies.

Nandamuri Balakrishna takes the fifth position with 372 crores from three movies. Except for Mollywood superstar Mohanlal, every senior actor delivered a box office breakthrough post-COVID.
Mohanlal, with seven movies, collected 215 crores and settled for the sixth position, failing to make it into the top five.
It looks like the craze for senior South Indian actors has not diminished among audiences. They continue to dominate box office collections with massive records.
Among all the top heroes on the list, Rajinikanth leads the race by a wide margin and still has some of the most anticipated movies of Kollywood in his lineup.
