Karthik Subbaraj stated that initially, he had designed the protagonist’s character with more heroic moments, but after Suriya read the script, he asked him to reduce the character arc to a more believable level.

He also mentioned that many star actors might have asked to increase the mass appeal moments of the character, but he appreciated the change suggested by Suriya.

Following this, social media users responded that if Retro becomes successful, then it’s acceptable — but what if Retro ends up as a disaster? Should Suriya be blamed for the changes in the script in that scenario?
