The shooting of Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated film Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, was completed recently. The makers are reportedly targeting a June release for the film.
After Jailer 2, Rajinikanth is set to work on his 173rd film, tentatively titled Thalaivar 173. The project is backed by Kamal Haasan’s banner Raj Kamal Films International.
Initially, the film was planned with director Cibi Chakaravarthi. However, recent reports suggest a possible change in direction. Ashwath Marimuthu is now being considered as a replacement.
Earlier, the project was announced with director Sundar C. Later, Sundar C was replaced by Cibi Chakaravarthi and the project moved forward without issues.
Reports indicate that an NOC issue involving a Telugu producer created complications for Cibi Chakaravarthi. This situation reportedly forced him to step away from the project.
At the same time, Ashwath Marimuthu had already narrated a script to Rajinikanth. This made him a strong contender to take over as director.
There were also reports that Cibi Chakaravarthi resolved the NOC issue. However, uncertainty around the project continued, leading to speculation about a director change.
After several developments, it now appears that Ashwath Marimuthu has the advantage. Reports suggest that RKFI has cancelled its agreement with Cibi Chakaravarthi.
Sources also state that Ashwath Marimuthu has cleared his NOC with AGS Productions. This strengthens his chances of directing the film.
However, there is no official confirmation yet. It remains to be seen who will finally direct Thalaivar 173 and how the project will move forward.
