Thug Life: 25 Lakhs Fine over Early OTT Release

Kamal Haasan’s most anticipated film, Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam, was released in theaters on June 5th and received disastrous responses from both audiences and critics.

Earlier, before the release, Kamal Haasan, during a promotional event for Thug Life, had proudly stated that Thug Life was going to be released on OTT with an 8-week window and that it was the first movie to seize this opportunity.

But now, there is strong speculation that, due to its disastrous theatrical run, Netflix has asked the Thug Life team to reduce the OTT deal price from 130 crores to 90 crores.

However, the Thug Life team negotiated and locked the OTT price at 110 crores, also agreeing to release the movie with a 4-week OTT window.

Due to the preponed OTT release, the Thug Life team is going to pay a 25 Lakhs fine to the National Multiplex Council for releasing the movie earlier on the OTT platforms.

Even though this is not an official announcement, the unverified rumors that the Thug Life team is going to pay a 25 Lakhs fine to the National Multiplexes has now gone viral on social media.
