Vijay's Huge Risk: Bets Big on One-Film Wonder

After the success of Maharaja, Vijay Sethupathi is now awaiting the release of his next movie, Viduthalai 2. In parallel, he has almost completed the shooting of his upcoming movie, Ace.

In this scenario, during the promotions of the Bollywood movie Baby John yesterday, Atlee revealed that he will next produce a Tamil movie starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan.

Balaji Tharaneetharan and Vijay Sethupathi have previously collaborated on two movies: Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Seethakaathi. Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom was a blockbuster success.

However, apart from Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, Balaji Tharaneetharan’s other three movies—Seethakaathi and the two OTT releases, Oru Pakka Kathai and Modern Love Chennai—failed to meet expectations and ended as disasters.

Following the success of Maharaja, Vijay Sethupathi has garnered a massive fan following. However, his next collaboration seems risky, as Balaji Tharaneetharan is viewed as a director with only one hit to his credit, while his other movies were failures, according to reactions on social media after Atlee’s announcement.

It remains to be seen how this movie shapes up and whether it can repeat the success of Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom for both Vijay Sethupathi and Balaji Tharaneetharan.
