A traveller shared their frustration after Air India cancelled their San Francisco to Bombay flight at the last minute. The passenger had booked months in advance to avoid peak-season fares and was set to fly on November 20.
Sudden Delay and Cancellation
They were supposed to reach Mumbai on the morning of November 22. On the day of travel, they first received a delay notice at 11:30 AM. Less than an hour later, the flight was marked cancelled with no explanation.
No Support and Limited Options
Air India offered only two choices. One was a rebooking on Lufthansa for the next day. The other was a refund, which was unhelpful because last-minute fares had crossed $2,500. Attempts to contact customer service led nowhere, as representatives only asked them to fill out an online form.
Flight Operated Despite ‘Cancellation’
After reading comments on their post, the traveller checked FlightAware. They discovered that the so-called cancelled Air India flight had actually taken off. This raised concerns about misleading communication and why the airline moved them to a much later flight.
Impact on Their Short Trip
With a return scheduled for December 2, losing a full day affected their plans. The airline’s communication has been called inadequate, and the traveller’s frustration appears justified.
