Air India Crash: Families Seek Justice in US Court

The Ahmedabad plane crash that claimed 270 lives has left families devastated and determined to seek justice. Sixty of these families are now preparing to take legal action against Boeing in a US court.

Families Demand Full Transparency

The families have hired American aviation lawyer Mike Andrews, known for handling severe injury and wrongful death cases. They are demanding access to the raw cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder information to allow for an independent investigation.

Their mistrust stems from the preliminary AAIB report, which claims both engines shut down seconds after takeoff because fuel switches were moved to cutoff. However, the report fails to clearly explain how this occurred.

Concerns Over Narrative and Accountability

Rather than providing clarity, the narrative from the airline and related authorities seems to lean toward suggesting pilot error. For Captain Sumit Sabharwal, who lost his life in the crash, such implications are deeply unfair. He cannot defend himself, and it is unethical to tarnish the name of a deceased pilot when the full truth is yet to emerge.

Airline Responsibility in Question

Passengers trust that airlines maintain the highest safety standards and ensure every system functions properly. In this case, the airline’s responsibility for the aircraft’s mechanical integrity must be examined thoroughly. Fuel switch function and other critical systems are the airline’s duty to monitor and maintain. Shifting blame onto those who perished does nothing to improve safety or honour the victims’ memory.

A Call for Answers and Justice

The families are demanding transparency and answers that go beyond selective details and half-truths. They want to know whether negligence or technical faults played a role in the tragedy. Anything less would dishonour the 270 lives lost and deepen the grief of those left behind.
