Unreal 18-Hr Delay: 180 Air India X Passengers Stranded

Chaos erupted at Kempegowda International Airport after a Nepal bound Air India Express flight faced multiple diversions. More than 180 passengers were stranded for nearly 18 hours on Thursday. The situation caused frustration among travellers awaiting clarity.

The flight was scheduled to depart Bengaluru at 10:30 am and reach Kathmandu by early afternoon. However, poor visibility at Kathmandu airport forced the aircraft to divert to Varanasi. Continued weather disruptions led to another rerouting to Lucknow.

Reports suggest that at least 37 passengers from Karnataka were travelling as part of a planned Nepal tour. Many expressed anger over the prolonged delay. Travellers claimed there was little communication from airline officials during the ordeal.

Some passengers staged a protest near the immigration area at Terminal 2. They raised slogans and refused to disperse for some time. Travellers also alleged inadequate refreshments. Updates regarding onward travel were reportedly delayed.

Air India later issued a statement blaming persistent adverse weather in Kathmandu. The airline said several flights across consecutive days were impacted. Authorities confirmed that recovery flights and passenger assistance were being arranged.

While weather related disruptions are common in aviation, the incident has revived concerns. Passengers highlighted gaps in communication and contingency planning. The episode has sparked debate about customer handling standards. Many are seeking clearer protocols during emergencies.
