A reddit post about a passenger’s recent transatlantic journey comparing Delta and Virgin Atlantic highlights a stark difference in service, comfort, and overall passenger experience.
According to the redditor, Flying Delta in economy basic, was a smooth and satisfying experience. Despite being in one of the last boarding zones, the boarding process was efficient. Seats were soft and comfortable, and the free, high-speed Wi-Fi allowed for uninterrupted entertainment browsing.
The in-flight entertainment library was expansive, featuring every John Wick, Bad Boys, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter film, along with full TV series like Yellowstone. Meal service included a decent Thai curry with tiramisu, followed by a second round of food and generous drink service.
Flight attendants made frequent rounds offering full-size sodas and even options like Jack Daniel’s or Woodford whiskey. On a later Delta short-haul, a pilot even gave the passenger a full cockpit tour. Overall, the Delta leg felt casual, generous, and engaging.
On the contrary, Virgin Atlantic, on the return flight, was a disappointment despite being booked in premium economy. Seats were stiff with limited recline, the boarding process was slow, and loud music played endlessly before takeoff.
Although Wi-Fi was advertised as free, it cost $20 and failed to reconnect once closed. The entertainment library was sparse and uninspiring, with only five episodes of Yellowstone available starting from the wrong season. Drink service was underwhelming, with only tiny cans of Coke Zero served without ice. Snack offerings were equally lackluster.
Despite the upgraded cabin, Virgin’s experience felt like style over substance. In contrast, Delta delivered comfort, quality, and real value, even in economy. The choice is clear. It’s apparent that the consumer base is shifting away from Virgin and towards Delta.
