Two easyJet planes clipped wings at Manchester Airport on Friday morning, leading to temporary delays and disruption. The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. on August 15, when two flights were preparing for departure from Terminal One.
Flights bound for Gibraltar and Paris
One of the aircraft, flight EZY2267, was heading to Gibraltar, while the other, flight EZY2117, was scheduled for Paris Charles de Gaulle. Passengers were already seated when the wing collision took place on the taxiway.
Witness accounts of the collision
Several witnesses described hearing a loud thud as the planes made contact. Some also reported seeing pieces of the wings falling onto the tarmac. A passenger explained that their stationary aircraft was struck by the other while moving.
Response from airport staff
Airport ground staff quickly moved in to collect broken pieces of the wings from the taxiway. Despite the noise and visible damage, officials confirmed that no one on board either flight sustained any injuries.
Temporary suspension of flights
Following the collision, Manchester Airport briefly suspended all departures to carry out safety checks. Operations resumed soon after, although passengers were warned that delays were likely through the day.
EasyJet statement on the incident
EasyJet later released an official statement confirming that the wing tips of both planes had made contact. The airline assured passengers that an investigation is already underway and stressed that safety of passengers and crew is the highest priority.
Arrangements for affected passengers
Travellers from the affected flights were taken back to the terminal. They were provided refreshment vouchers and offered alternative travel options while airline staff worked to manage the disruption.
