An easyJet flight captain has been suspended pending an internal investigation after allegations that he wandered naked in a luxury hotel following an all-night drinking session. The incident took place at the five-star Meliá Dunas Beach Resort and Spa in Cape Verde.
Witness Reports and Timeline
According to witnesses cited by The Sun, the pilot had been drinking at the hotel bar since the previous evening. He appeared to be heavily intoxicated and in what they described as a “paralytic” state. At about 2:30 a.m., he allegedly removed all his clothes and walked through the reception before heading to the gym and spa.
Impact on Scheduled Flight
The captain was due to operate a flight from Cape Verde to London Gatwick the following day. After the hotel incident, easyJet grounded him and assigned a replacement pilot to ensure the service operated as planned.
Official Statements from easyJet
An easyJet source told The Sun that anyone who saw the pilot behaving in such a manner would not feel confident boarding a flight under his control. A spokesperson for the airline said the pilot was immediately removed from duty once the matter came to light. The statement added that passenger and crew safety is the airline’s highest priority.
Long-Haul Nature of the Route
The easyJet service between Gatwick and Cape Verde spans 2,332 nautical miles. It is among the airline’s longest flights from England, with an average duration of about six hours.
