Flights Gone, Visa Ending: Indian Trapped in UAE?

Flight disruptions continue to affect travelers across the Middle East as a result of the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, with airspace closures forcing airlines to cancel or reroute flights.

One Reddit user shared their personal ordeal after their flight to India was abruptly cancelled due to the restricted airspace.

The airline offered a full refund of around 1,000 dirhams, but new ticket prices had more than doubled, crossing 2,000 dirhams. The traveler, currently on a visit visa in the UAE, found themselves in a bind as the visa expired the next day.

Extending the visa for a full month would cost approximately 1,150 dirhams, an amount they were reluctant to spend for just a few extra days.

Fellow users suggested two options. First, contact the travel agency that issued the visit visa, as only they can apply for an extension. Second, consider overstaying by a few days and paying the overstay fee upon departure.

It was mentioned that immigration may offer some leniency if valid proof of flight cancellation is provided. The overstay penalty is typically around 50 dirhams per day.

The situation has become a financial and logistical nightmare for travelers caught in the conflict’s ripple effects. With visa deadlines approaching and flight prices soaring, many are left scrambling for short-term solutions.

This incident reflects how geopolitical tensions can have a direct and disruptive impact on individual lives far from the conflict zones.
