Delhi Preg Woman Harassed: Qatar Air to Pay ₹1.5L

Qatar Airways has been ordered to pay ₹1.5 lakh in compensation after a New Delhi consumer court ruled against the airline. The verdict comes in a case involving alleged harassment of a pregnant passenger and her mother during travel.

The New Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission found Qatar Airways guilty of service deficiency and mental harassment. The bench, led by Poonam Chaudhry with Members Bariq Ahmad and Shekhar Chandra, announced the decision.

Fine and Payment Terms

The airline has been directed to pay ₹1,00,000 as compensation and ₹50,000 towards litigation costs. The total amount must be paid within one month. A 7% annual interest will apply if the airline delays payment.

Case Filed Under Consumer Protection Act

The case was filed by Advocate Meena Chaudhary Sharma under Section 12 of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986. She had booked a business class ticket for herself and an economy class ticket for her pregnant daughter on Qatar Airways.

Details of the Complaint

According to the complaint, the passengers were travelling to the United States when they faced several incidents of negligence by the airline staff. The court held that such behaviour amounted to a lack of proper service and caused emotional distress.
