A loyal Southwest Airlines passenger has shared anger over a failed promotion. Despite following instructions for a companion pass offer, the traveller says they were denied the benefit, raising concerns about misleading terms and poor customer service.
Promotion Promised a Companion Pass
The traveller, a Priority Card holder, received an email earlier this year promising a companion pass if they booked and flew within specific dates. They also registered for the promotion in advance, completing all the listed requirements.
Customer Service Contradictions
After not receiving the pass, the passenger contacted customer service. At first, they were told they qualified. Later, the representative reversed their stance, saying the requirements had not been met, adding confusion to the process.
Ambiguous Wording Sparks Dispute
The dispute centered on Southwest’s use of the phrase “travel by” instead of “complete trip by.” The passenger argued this vague wording misled customers, while staff used the ambiguity to deny benefits despite the traveller’s compliance.
Trust in Promotions at Risk
The passenger called the experience manipulative and dishonest. They warned others to read fine print carefully before relying on Southwest’s promotional deals, saying the burden of unclear wording unfairly falls on customers.
