A traveller recently claimed that Uber fares to JFK Airport’s Terminal 4 can vary by as much as $30 depending on the airline selected. According to the user, choosing Delta Air Lines showed a higher fare compared to Virgin Atlantic, even though both operate from the same terminal.

Same Route, Different Price

The test was done using the same pickup point, time, and drop-off location. The only change was the airline selection within the Uber app. The user shared multiple screenshots on Reddit, showing that the fare increased solely due to choosing Delta instead of Virgin Atlantic.

Questions Over Uber’s Pricing Logic

This discovery has led to speculation about how Uber calculates fares. Some believe it could be linked to backend tagging, data mapping, or historical demand patterns tied to specific airlines. Others suspect algorithmic adjustments that are not publicly disclosed. Uber has not released an official explanation.

Similar Case in Florida

Another traveller reported a comparable issue at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. They said an Uber ride to Miami Beach on a weekday afternoon costs over $60 from the airport. However, taking a free shuttle to the FLL Tri Rail Station just seven minutes away drops the Uber fare to around $30.

These incidents have raised doubts among passengers about whether airline choice or airport zones are influencing ride-hailing fares more than expected.
