Another Telugu Student Shot at in the US

In another incident of gun shooting, a student Gampa Praveen (27) died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Praveen was pursuing his MS there and was living in the state.

A miscreant fired on a beach near his house and Praveen was shot during the incident. It is said Praveen was shot at a store where he was working part-time during a suspected robbery. His body was found with bullet wounds. Originally, Praveen belonged to Rangareddy district Kesampeta.

His family back home is inconsolable.

The Consulate General of India in Chicago expressed their grief on twitter handle. “We are saddened by the untimely death of Praveen Kumar Gampa, a post graduate student of Wisconsin-Milwaukee University. The Consulate is in touch with Praveen’s family and the University, helping them with all possible support. Our heartfelt prayers and condolences are with his family and friends of the departed.”

Praveen was a student of data science at the University of Wisconsin. He went to the US in 2023, after completing his BTech here. He was in India in December 2024 and left in January, 2025.

According to his father, he was to finish his course and find a permanent job. The parents received a call asking for Praveen’s date of birth, while Praveen’s friends were called to the scene.
