Drunk Indian Jailed for Life in U.S.

The sentencing took place in Riverside County, California, where the district attorney argued that the crash was intentional. The Riverside County district attorney commended the maximum sentence imposed, acknowledging the profound effect of the incident on numerous families. Meanwhile, Anurag Chandra’s attorney expressed disappointment with the verdict and sentence and planned to appeal the decision.

The incident occurred when the teenagers rang Chandra’s doorbell and then drove away, prompting him to chase them and collide with their vehicle at a high speed. Chandra fled the scene but was later arrested.

During the trial, he claimed he was afraid for his family’s safety and had chased the car out of anger. Additionally, he admitted to consuming 12 bottles of beer prior to the crash.
