A 51-year-old man from India living in Singapore was sent to jail for five months on Tuesday. He was found guilty of touching a 12-year-old girl inappropriately at a supermarket while he was drunk.
This incident happened in July last year. The girl was with her mother when the man, Thankkodi Shanmugam, touched her in a wrong way and then quickly left.
The girl told her mother about what happened, and her mother started chasing after Shanmugam with her daughter. This was all recorded on security cameras.
Shanmugam tried to get away, even running and taking an elevator to a building. The girl’s mother called the police, and some people passing by helped stop Shanmugam. The mother even took his picture, but he managed to escape again.
She kept chasing him until her slippers broke, and she lost sight of him. Meanwhile, the girl was left shivering with the people who had tried to help her calm down.
Shanmugam was identified and arrested on the same day. When questioned by the police, he denied doing anything wrong, saying it was an accident, and he couldn’t remember it well.
It was mentioned in court that Shanmugam had been drinking hard liquor and was drunk when this happened.
This is terribly bad and the man must pay for the crime.
