F-1 Rejection: Visa Denied Over Student Loan?

US Visa rejections are killing the dreams of aspiring students every day. One F-1 interview experience just highlights how random and uncertain this process can be.

After getting accepted at the City University of New York (CUNY) Baruch’s Master’s in Finance program, an F-1 applicant walked into the New Delhi consulate with an I‑20 and passport. And just minutes later, he left empty‑handed.

When asked why he chose Baruch, he said he picked it while searching for schools that accept three‑year degrees. That generic answer made the visa officer doubt his genuine interest.

He mentioned a 50 lakh loan plus 50 lakh savings, but skipped details about his father’s job or repayment plan. That gap might have let doubt creep in about his ability to cover costs without a US job.

However, all of this remains a speculation, as echoed by other social media users online. People criticized his short answers and lack of a personal connection to the university. They argued that without a solid story, even perfect documents can’t be saved.

One user summed it up perfectly, though: “They don’t like to hear such long answers, nor are they interested in how much your father makes. It’s just a formality to interview your fate is decided even before you appear for an interview.”

That’s the sad reality of these random rejections without explanation.
