A green card applicant recently shared frustration on Reddit over long processing delays. The individual filed their I-130 and I-485 applications in September 2024. Despite partial progress, the final decision on permanent residency has not yet arrived.
The I-130 petition was approved in February 2025. However, the I-485 Adjustment of Status application continues to remain pending. More than 19 months have passed since the original filing, creating uncertainty and stress for the applicant.
The applicant’s travel permit and work authorisation were approved without a formal interview. Even so, their official Lawful Permanent Resident status has not been granted. They continue to maintain valid F-1 status while waiting for a final outcome.
Immigration experts note that I-485 processing timelines differ widely between USCIS field offices. Delays are not uncommon in certain jurisdictions. The applicant had earlier approached their local congressional representative for assistance.
The congressional inquiry was made in summer 2025 but did not produce any updates. USCIS reportedly provided no meaningful response after the inquiry. This lack of clarity has added to the applicant’s frustration.
Experts now suggest seeking help from an immigration attorney. One possible legal option is filing a Writ of Mandamus. This legal action compels USCIS to take a decision on a long-pending case.
The applicant may also consider filing a second congressional inquiry. Since considerable time has passed since the first request, another inquiry could bring renewed attention. If a Writ of Mandamus is pursued, professional legal guidance is essential.
