US Crash: Indian Worker Killed in Govt-Marked Car

An Indian-origin highway worker lost his life in a tragic crash in the United States. Dipakkumar Patel, aged 70, died while on duty in Maryland.

The incident took place on April 28 on Route 13 in Somerset County. Patel was seated inside a marked government vehicle, carrying out routine maintenance work.

According to investigators, another vehicle rammed into his stationary car from behind. The impact was severe, and Patel had no chance to react. He was declared dead at the scene.

Patel was a resident of Delmar and part of a Maryland transportation crew. The incident has raised serious concerns about worker safety in highway zones.

The driver, Amanda Correa, was taken to hospital along with a passenger. Authorities have stated that the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.

This is not an isolated case. Just days earlier, another highway worker, Robert Dempsey, aged 40, died in a similar incident in Maryland.

The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees has strongly criticised the situation. The union has blamed systemic failure and lack of safety measures.

It stated that workers are being sent into high-risk zones without adequate protection. The union also claimed that authorities are aware of these dangers but have not taken sufficient action.

Despite following safety protocols and staying inside a clearly marked vehicle, Patel could not avoid the accident. This has raised questions about whether current safety measures are enough.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing. Meanwhile, concerns about worker safety and accountability continue to grow among the public.
