An Indian student’s US study dream collapsed despite securing F-1 visa approval. The student’s passport, submitted for stamping in June, has remained stuck in processing for nearly four months, forcing them to abandon their college admission.
College Deadline Missed
Although the visa was approved, the student could not enrol as their passport never arrived. With the academic deadline long passed, they had no choice but to close the case and shift focus to recovering their travel document.
Temporary Pickup Fails Too
According to the student, the consulate later agreed to a temporary pickup arrangement. Yet 20 days have passed with no notification or update, leaving the applicant stranded and without clarity on the next steps.
Risk of Reporting Passport Lost
Out of desperation, the student is considering reporting the passport “lost” to apply for a new one. However, this risky move may cause visa revocation, legal trouble, and added scrutiny, destroying the F-1 approval already secured.
Systemic Failures and Poor Communication
Consulates often hold passports due to backlogs, courier delays, or internal checks. But in this case, the silence from authorities has left the student in limbo. Missing an entire college year due to poor communication highlights deep flaws in the system.
