Indians Aiming UK, Beware!

Indians Aiming UK

If you are planning to move to the United Kingdom, there’s something you must know. Living in the UK is going to be more costly from next year for Indians studying or working there. The government in the UK is proposing an increase in one of the significant fees incurred by migrants who are studying or working in the country.

The proposal aims at increasing the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) which is an annual fee paid by immigrants to access the National Health Services (NHS) of the UK. This would directly affect tens of thousands of Indians who are aiming to study or work in the UK or those who are already living there.

The annual fee for IHS was £624 and the new proposed fee is £1035 per annum. This is a significant increase but the report suggests that it is justified since the healthcare cost increased after 2020, when the IHS fee was revised for the last time.

The locals in the UK have often complained about immigrants using the NHS without contributing to it, which is completely baseless as they have to pay an annual fee for it. The move is going to affect the UK economy which depends on immigrant workers in many sectors.
