Instead of booking rooms at extravagant hotels, the Indians are booking beds in hospitals in India.

Medical tourism saw a huge increase during the Christmas and New Year break in the private specialized hospitals in India because of the huge number of NRIs coming to the country for treatments. The NRIs are seeking treatment particularly in dental, dermatology, orthopedics and hair care.

According to data, 18 percent of all NRIs coming to India are traveling for health related concerns. The private hospital ecosystem of India supports medical tourism by providing quality non-emergency health services at an affordable rate when compared with the western countries.

The western countries rely on a public healthcare system which has long waitlists for non-emergency services and the private hospitals there are exorbitantly expensive. Although the private hospitals in India providing these specialized healthcare services are not affordable for average Indians, the NRIs find them as the cheaper alternative.
