Canadian man Kenneth Law, 58, faces 14 counts of second-degree murder for allegedly aiding young people in Ontario’s suicide. Initially charged with counseling or aiding suicide, Law mailed packages containing sodium nitrite to over 40 countries.
The police, emphasizing the gravity of the charges, disclosed that around 160 packages were sent within Canada. Inspector Simon James highlighted the significance during a press conference in York, a northern district of Toronto.
The man also targeted the younger group of people, all of his victims aged between 16-36 on the internet. Also, that number of 14 is just related to Canada; on a global scale, that number can be as big as 117 as Britain comes out as the most affected one.
Kenneth Law, accused of aiding suicides through online platforms, is in jail and faces a court appearance on Dec. 19. Inspector Simon James notes challenges in prosecuting as some sites are beyond Canadian jurisdiction.
If guilty, Law could be among Canada’s worst mass murderers, potentially surpassing the 2020 Nova Scotia shooting that claimed 22 lives.
