
Raja Krishnamoorthi speaks for NRIs
Raja Krishnamoorthi is an Indian-origin Democrat who represents Illinois’ 8th District. He is prominent voice for NRIs in the US Government.
Recently, he has spoken against Florida Councilman Chandler Langevin. Langevin stated on an X post “I won Rajesh. Take your curry and go home.”
Krishnamoorthi had responded by stating that he’s staying “and so is the curry.” His strong standpoint against anti-Indian sentiments has given him immense popularity amongst NRIs.
Krishnamoorthi has a long history of of championing NRI causes. He has consistently sponsored bills to ease green card wait times for Indians, which can reach over 135 years.
He has also sponsored bills that eliminate per-country limits on employment green cards. Alongside which he has attempted give more flexibility for H-1B workers to switch jobs an apply for residency.
Amidst the $100k H-1B fee debate, Krishnamoorthi introduced a bill that would raise the annual H-1B cap from 65,000 to 130,000. This would allow more workers from India find better jobs in the US, and would also redirect more funds towards STEM education.
His attempts to help prospective Indian immigrants and fighting against hate crimes has led to a felicitation by Indian Physicians. Krishnamoorthi says that democracy means living free from discrimination regardless of origin.
