An Indian origin man named Ramesh Kris Nathan, aged 43, has been sentenced to 51 months in a United States federal prison for cheating investors with a fake technology company. The sentence was given by a federal judge in California. The term is a little over four years.
Ramesh Nathan created a company called Relativity Research Fund, Inc. He claimed it was working on advanced robotics and space travel. He told investors that the company had fifteen thousand employees and operations around the world. He also said the company had billions in profits. He falsely added that its shares would soon be available on the Nasdaq Private Market.
In reality, the company did not exist at all. It had no employees and no offices. It also had no real business. Ramesh Nathan opened a bank account in San Francisco and collected money from investors. He spent most of it on his personal expenses. He sent money to his mother and girlfriend. He also moved the money between different bank accounts to hide the fraud.
Many of the victims were United States military veterans or their family members. Ramesh Kris Nathan used false success stories to convince them to invest. He also used intermediaries to make the scheme look believable.
After an eight-day trial in February 2025, he was found guilty of six counts of wire fraud. He was also found guilty of two counts of money laundering.
Along with his prison sentence, Ramesh Nathan must pay $300000 in restitution to the victims. He will be under supervision after his release. He will begin his prison term on March 13, 2026.
The case was investigated by the FBI. The prosecution was handled by United States Attorneys Roland Chang and Sara Henderson with support from Tina Rosenbaum.
