An Indian-origin man in California has been charged with murder. Varun Suresh, 29, is accused of killing a registered sex offender in what officials call a targeted attack.
The Murder in Fremont
The victim, 71-year-old David Brimmer, was stabbed to death in Fremont, California. Investigators say Suresh located Brimmer using the publicly available Megan’s Law database before carrying out the attack.
Victim’s Past and Suresh’s Entry
Brimmer had served 9 years in prison after a 1995 conviction for sexually assaulting a child. According to court documents, Suresh posed as a public accountant to enter Brimmer’s home. He then chased him into a neighbour’s house with a knife.
Details of the Attack
Suresh stabbed Brimmer in the neck and ordered him to repent. He then cut Brimmer’s throat to ensure he was dead. Records show Suresh also had a criminal history. In 2021, he attempted to target another pedophile with a false bomb threat.
Charges Filed by Authorities
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has charged Suresh with murder, residential burglary, and being armed with a deadly weapon. Officials have described the attack as both violent and deliberate.
