Shocking Arrest: NRI Techie Jailed Without Charge

In a shocking turn of events, the parents of Amit Gupta, an Indian techie living in Qatar, have approached the PMO due to their son allegedly being kept behind bars for 3 months without any valid charges.

Amit Gupta, who had settled in Qatar after his marriage in 2013, was reportedly arrested by the local police, while his family back home did not receive any explanation from the authorities.

The parents have appealed to the PMO, leading to a swift response from the Ministry of External Affairs.

The ministry spokesperson said, “Our Embassy in Qatar is aware of the detention of Mr Amit Gupta, an Indian national, by Qatari Authorities in relation to an ongoing investigation. We are providing all possible assistance in the matter and are closely following the case.”

This is not the first time an Indian has been arrested in the Gulf. There have been several instances where people of Indian and Pakistani descent have been locked up or, worse, given death sentences for the smallest of crimes.

The government needs to take note of this situation and use appropriate backchannel talks to ensure open and transparent communication between both nations so that incidents like these can be minimized in the future.
