US-Iran War: Indian Navy to Secure Oil Route in Hormuz?

The ongoing US-Israel-Iran war is beginning to affect global trade and supply chains. According to reports, around 37 Indian oil and LPG tankers are currently stranded near the Strait of Hormuz. The situation has raised concerns about maritime safety and energy transport.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most critical energy routes in the world. Nearly one fifth of global crude oil passes through this narrow waterway between Iran and Oman. Any disruption in this region can quickly impact international energy markets.

India depends heavily on this strategic corridor for its energy supplies. Nearly 85 percent of the country’s LPG imports pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Around 40 percent of crude oil and more than half of LNG shipments also move through the same route.

The conflict in the region has placed the passage under significant pressure. Sailors aboard the stranded vessels have reportedly requested the Indian government to intervene. The situation has created anxiety among shipping companies and crew members.

Many shipping operators have already become cautious about sending vessels through the route. The risk of escalation in the conflict has increased uncertainty for maritime transport. This hesitation could slow down energy shipments if the situation continues.

Reports suggest the Indian government is examining several maritime contingency plans. These measures aim to safely move stranded vessels away from the conflict zone. Authorities are closely monitoring developments in the region.

According to reports, the government may consider deploying the Indian Navy if tensions rise further. Naval escort operations could help protect commercial vessels crossing the sensitive route. Such steps would aim to ensure safe passage for Indian ships.

The global oil market has already reacted to the crisis. Oil prices briefly surged to around 120 dollars per barrel due to supply concerns. Analysts warn that prolonged instability could affect fuel prices in several countries.

If the trade route remains unstable, the impact may soon reach Indian households. Higher oil prices could increase petrol and diesel costs. The situation highlights the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz for India’s energy security.
