A 62-year-old Indian-origin businessman was shot dead during a robbery at his store in Jackson, Tennessee, in the United States. The shocking incident reportedly took place in front of his 19-year-old daughter.
The victim has been identified as Suresh Patel, a native of Mehsana district in Gujarat. He was reportedly running a liquor store in Jackson and had opened the business only a few days before the tragic incident.
According to police, Suresh Patel was inside the store with his daughter on Thursday night when a masked man entered. The suspect reportedly pointed a gun at them and demanded money. After taking cash from the store, the attacker allegedly opened fire at Suresh Patel multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Suresh Patel suffered critical injuries and died at the spot. His 19-year-old daughter witnessed the entire incident and was left in shock.
Police have launched an investigation and are searching for the suspect. The exact circumstances surrounding the robbery and shooting are still being investigated.
The tragic incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of Indian-origin business owners in the United States, particularly those running small stores that can become targets for armed robberies.
For Suresh Patel’s family, the tragedy is even more devastating because the business had reportedly opened only days earlier. What should have been the beginning of a new chapter instead ended in a horrifying loss of life.
The investigation is now focused on identifying the masked attacker and determining exactly what happened inside the store that night.
