One passenger died and several others were injured after a Singapore Airlines flight encountered severe turbulence due to bad weather conditions. The flight was on the way from London to Singapore. It had an emergency landing in Bangkok.
The airline confirmed the news through its official social media handles. There were 211 passengers and 18 crew on board on this Boeing 777-300ER airplane. The company didn’t inform the exact number of passengers who were injured. However, it is reported that more than 30 people were injured in the incident.
Singapore Airlines stated that the company is working with the local authorities in Thailand to provide the necessary medical services. An additional crew is also being sent to Thailand to provide assistance.
Generally, turbulence happens when there is a sudden or irregular movement in the air, causing a plane to shake. During heavy turbulence, the passengers may bump from their seats and can also be thrown around the cabin.
This is the first fatality that occurred on Singapore Airlines since October 2000, when one of its flights crashed on a closed runway in Taiwan during takeoff. The accident resulted in the death of 83 people.
