An Indian software engineer’s first job in the US turned into a nightmare. Instead of work experience at an international firm, the techie revealed he faced racism and insults from his boss.
The Indian engineer took to Reddit to share his experience of giving an interview for a remote job. When he pointed out some flaws in the company’s website, he was met with racist remarks as the interviewer asked him, “So what exactly do people in India do? Just scam others and pull off frauds?”
And if that wasn’t offensive enough, the man continued to make personal remarks about the techie asking him, “What will you do when you go bald and are no longer good-looking?”
It was his first outing at the job market, and the Indian youngster tried to shrug it off, landing the remote job in the firm. However, his laptop crashed just two days in, and once again, the same man blasted him off, calling him a “scammer.”
The Indian techie stood up for himself but his objections were dismissed. Even complaining to the HR backfired as he was logged out of his company account and still remains unsure about his status.
Despite Indians dominating the workspaces in the US, they still have to deal with such racist remarks. While the Reddit user didn’t mention the company’s name, it is disheartening to see this toxic culture at an international firm ruining his first work experience.
